Senior Dispatch Supervisor

Job Purpose:

The Senior Dispatch Supervisor will work closely with the Dispatch Manager and field operations to ensure resource demands are met, will review fleet plans and make necessary adjustments in the absence of a fleet planner.  The Senior Dispatcher will handle all incident, collision reports and escalate to a Dispatch Manager when appropriate.  They will troubleshoot on- board systems to include Driver Cell Phones and provide assistance as needed.


  • Ensure efficient driver operations through interaction with drivers, field operations personnel, field management and corporate management.  Make adjustments to operational plans as needed and notify the Dispatch manager of potential operational challenges.
  •   Will handle all incident/collision calls, complete the necessary reports and distribute them accordingly.  Will escalate calls, as needed, to the Dispatch Manager and make the appropriate field notifications.
  • Troubleshoots on-board system issues, including driver devices; providing guidance to resolve problems, documenting the call to develop future training material.  Will initiate device replacement, notifying local management of the need to replace a lost/stolen device.  Will handle all Operational System (BOSS, ORDS, Driver Planning, etc.) password resets.
  • Will assist the Dispatch Manager in notifying personnel of major collisions/incidents and assist in the Emergency Operations Center as needed.  
  • Make recommendations on changing current operational procedures/guidelines and develop new ones as needed.
  • Provide assistance to Dispatch Supervisors, ensuring operational excellence and a great customer experience.
  • Assist in training new hires and provide remedial training as needed.
  • Fill in as a Dispatch Supervisor or Dispatch Manager as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned/needed


  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • College Degree (Strongly Preferred)
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership ability including; motivating, coaching and developing others
  • Ability to analyze statistical information and make decisions based on the information provided 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Must exercise active listening skills and have the ability to exercise considerable diplomacy, judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external customers and company departments. 
  • Must exercise ability to make quick decisions and solve problems.  
  • Thorough knowledge of United States geography and GLI schedule product 
  • Proven ability to exercise positive and effective customer service skills. 
  • Knowledge of Windows, EXCEL and WORD. 
  • Basic mathematics skills required.  
  • Ability to work day, evening or night shift, weekends and holidays 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects; work with management to determine level of importance. 
  • Ability to design and interpret data in a clear and concise manner to produce requested reports: Must work independently and understand requests from all levels. 
  • Understand needs of the business and be able to communicate requirements to all levels.
  • Strong Knowledge of GLI Operational Systems
  • The ability to troubleshoot/resolve technical problems with driver devices, and other systems. Experience 
  • Experience dealing with internal and/or external customers and problem resolution.
  • Experience working with a collective bargaining unit in order to comply with contract obligations and guidelines a plus. 
  •  Dispatching experience preferred.
  •  Bilingual is preferred.
