First Group America is currently hiring for a Senior Director of Talent Development.  This role develops strategy for management development, training and succession planning. This individual also leads delivery of the Group Leader Development Offering (GLDO).  The key focus is to positively improve individual and organizational performance by way of a strategic and deliberate process to identify and select employees for training, development, promotion, and growth assignments. They will also guide the organization in the retention and development of the next generation business leaders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategic approach to learning and development that includes training, development and succession planning. Responsible to lead the delivery and administration of the First Group Leader Development Offering.
  • Designs, develops and delivers effective training and development programs to all salaried levels of management. Works closely with senior management to assess, develop and retain needed talent.
  • Designs, develops and manages Manager in Training (MIT) program.
  • Works closely with senior management to identify learning and development opportunities and designs the appropriate training contents to support the company’s strategy and goals.
  • Design, implement and administer a practical succession planning process for use at First Student at LM and AGM levels. Work with Group to administer the FirstGroup process for senior level positions.
  • Establishes methodology to capture all information surrounding an in-house learning management system (LMS) that include: needs assessment, new employee orientation / on-boarding, management development, cross-training (where applicable).
  • Works with individual managers to assist them in performance assessment and will develop appropriate training program(s) as needed.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training and development programs; assesses methods, processes and techniques to ensure maximum dollar optimization and benefit/return to the organization. Collects, reports, and disseminates data, survey statistics, and employee/management feedback on the effectiveness of the training and development materials.
  • Drives First Group Vision & Values via the creation and execution of training and development programs. Assists in supporting organization Diversity initiatives to ensure that our leadership teams reflect the communities in which we operate.
  • Supports performance management and reviews process for supervisors and employees.
  • Works closely and effectively with First Group development and HR staff and external resources as necessary.
  • Develop and led programs to efficiency induct new LMs/GMs and AGMs/RVPs into their roles; develop and administer practical program to identify LM/GM, AGM/RVP, and RSVP candidates from existing talent pool and create plans to speed development.
  • Develops and leads First University program.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Advanced degree (MBA or specialized Master’s degree in Education) preferred
  • Training certifications a plus
  • 10 years of management experience. Prior experience with instruction and/or curriculum design required.
  • Requires experience designing training, management development and succession planning programs.
  • Experience in transportation or other related-industry is a plus.
  • Ability to create learning and development programs with limited or minimal use of external consultants and/or vendors
  • Ability to develop programs from a non-existent base to desired state within specified timeframes and/or budgets; ability to modify Group-developed programs for effective use at Student.
  • Basic knowledge and awareness of federal and state rules and regulations regarding various human resources, safety, environmental concerns, etc.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook. Ability to use instructional technologies (e-learning, NetMeeting, etc.) required.
  • Additional graphics and/or production capabilities using PhotoShop, Captivate, Camtasia and basic HTML helpful.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels.
  • Must be effective at building trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, flexible and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. Comfortable being administratively self-supported.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%
