Operations Intelligence Specialist (28114)

At First Student, the Operations Intelligence Specialist will focus on data analyst with the ability to convert project requirement into custom reporting for operational business analytics.  They must develop a strong comprehension of operational business functions, terminology and current key performance metrics.  They also must understand how to use that knowledge to solve for and improve upon analytical business requirements.  The role will involve regular interactions, and effective communication, with Operations and Performance Improvement departments.  The individual must be able to mine current data sources and produce viable Excel and Power BI reports.  The role will also require continual analysis of those reports for improvement and enhancements to both processes and calculations.

Operations Intelligence Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Weekly and Monthly reporting of operational KPI’s.
  • Creation of SQL queries to mine several database sources and development of data driven reports for a variety of operational reporting requests. Both recurring and ad-hoc.
  • Ability to clearly explain logic and methodology of data extraction methods to both Manager and end users of reports.
  • Use of data analytics to identify trends, gaps, or omissions in current operating locations’ performance.
  • Identify and recognize improvements to statistical calculations with objective of continually improving upon key business metrics.
  • Work directly with Operational Support Manager and Operational Support Analysts to identify specific needs for each project and create effective reporting solutions for those requested deliverables.
  • Engage and participate in any new analytical projects, and provide exploratory data capturing for purpose of project evaluation or adoption.
  • Identify and communicate bugs, metric errors, issues on currently established reports.
  • May assist in development of new procedures for optimized data collection and recording.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Operations Intelligence Specialist Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years working in data analysis or similar role
  • 2+ years of SQL writing and data mining experience
  • Experience with MS Power BI, capacity to create and publish report
  • Knowledge of database environments, experience with Azure Data Warehouse environments being a plus
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to collect, organize, and present large amounts of data with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to understand business reporting requirements and translate them into data driven reporting
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
  • Strong attention to data details, and efficient at problem solving
