North American Data Privacy Director (30248)

The North American Data Privacy Director will support the Company’s North American Data Privacy Governance program and lead the execution of privacy programs and key initiatives. This role will focus on ensuring company operations collect, use and disclose personal information in compliance with North American (US and Canada) laws on privacy, data and information protection. This position reports directly to the FirstGroup America North American General Counsel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • California Consumer Privacy Act lead compliance officer/project manager.
  • Serve as and perform duties associated with filling the role as the Company’s Canadian Privacy Officer.
  • Monitor and prepare for compliance with pending U.S. privacy legislation by state.
  • Other data security/compliance duties as needed/required.
  • Lead and coordinate the company’s response to any data breaches, including notice, investigation and corrective actions.
  • Manage staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations.
  • Assist in eliminating key legal and regulatory privacy exposures, managing key projects and working with relevant business and support units to develop strategies for risk-mitigation and remediation efforts.
  • Analyze privacy issues as they arise and provide expert advice to business and support units as required, particularly for new studies, services and systems.
  • Handle complex privacy issues, interacting with senior management as necessary to provide guidance and direction on risk assessments and compliance concerns.
  • Monitor privacy environment for new legal and regulatory developments that may impact the organization.
  • Guide the development and delivery of communications and privacy training programs to raise awareness about the company’s Privacy Program across business functions.
  • Privacy program management and monitoring performance related to key metrics.
  • Maintain privacy processes, tools, and metrics.
  • Execute extensive data mapping tabletop exercises.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to determine whether privacy-related policies/processes need to be modified or developed and drive any necessary policy/process changes.

Level of Decision Making

  • Leads FirstGroup's NA Data Privacy programs and initiatives to include, serving as FirstGroup's CCPA lead compliance officer and Canadian Privacy Officer among other data privacy responsibilities and oversight 

Minimum Education and Certification Required

  • Advanced degree required and strongly prefer law, finance or business
  • CIPP and/or CIPM certifications or ability to obtain withing first six months


Experience and Skills Required

  • Minimum 5-7 years professional experience with at least 4 years direct experience in data privacy field
  • In house experience preferred, but not required 
  • Strong understanding of data privacy laws and regulations including, CCPA
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and sound judgement abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with C-Suite Executives
  • Familiarity with operational, quality assurance data privacy procedures and regulations
