Multi Site Transportation Safety Coordinator (32814)

Job Purpose: The MSSC supports the safety of designated locations for all operational, facility and workshop activities within the region. The MSSM must also be able to lead behavioral change by motivating others and inspiring them to become safety leaders. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policy.

1) Works with the RSM, LSM, LM and the Tech in Charge, to ensure workshop safety provisions are in-place and being adhered to shared accountability.
2) Identifies underperforming locations (to forecast), perform analysis and work with location team to develop recommendations to improve.
3) Conducts and documents investigation for all serious events. Assists in developing actions and ensures lessons learned are implemented, shared and followed up on.
4) Sharing of best practices and solutions or new ideas on problem solving at locations managed by the position.
5) Provides assistance as to RSM and Risk Management on claims management and cases in litigation.
6) Helps locations determine proper remedial actions in the aftermath of a safety event to include retraining and participating in the discipline decision.
7) Multiple location oversight to guide locations on compliance with First Student policies and SOPs, as well as applicable laws and regulations, provide visibility of location compliance scores to regional and senior team.
8) Preparation monthly reports and analysis of safety performance for multi -site locations. Identify trends and corrective actions.
9) Audits High Interest Driver compliance in all multi-site locations.
10) Provides safety training for new LMs and LSMs; help with the development of LSM abilities support primary Regional train the trainer workshops.
11) Promoting effective management at a location level by utilizing company I T initiative’s Focus, Zonar, and Injury Prevention Database.
12) Performs an RSM audit in person at least once per year, for higher interest locations this may require more frequent inspections and safety reviews. Location visits should follow a check list which includes visits to schools, rail crossings etc. to conduct observations of the operations and observations of training taking place.
13) Generally an RSM should be spending about 80% of their time on the road at locations.

14) Assists HR/LM with driver recruitment, retention, and training efficiencies.
15) Provides a weekly one page progress report regarding the RSM activities carried out and results as a plan for the upcoming week, when possible in person.
16) Works with AGM and LM regarding the carrying out or cascading of division or group wide activities and actions.
17) The MSSC provides technical guidance to the LSM while the prioritization and direction of the LSMs work is the function of the LM.
18) Verification of location compliance with NDT/, EDTP standards and conduct quality assurance by auditing elements of training programs being conducted at a location level.
19) Audits LSM activity on driver observation programs and participate whenever possible (shared accountabilities).

How to measure MSSC Performance: Standard Safety KPIs (relatively to influence) RSM Audits, Location Safety Reviews, LM and LSM Surveys, weight averaged Initiatives, creativity and action plan follow through Supervising Manager and senior team rating.

Minimum Education & Certifications Required: HS Diploma and 2 years of College

Experience & Skills Required: • Valid CDL
• 5 Years of Safety/Transportation Experience
• 5 Years experience in fleet transportation management
• Collision Investigation training
• State/Provincial Instructor Certification in at least one of the States/Provincial in the Region
• Certified Smith System Defensive Driving Instructor
• Expert in Word, Excel and Power Point, Corporate Databases

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions (include amount of travel): Incumbent must be able to move about the office and between floors; utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
