First Group America is currently looking for a Human Resources Engagement Specialist (HRES) to be responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The HRES serves as an Employee Engagement consultant to management within an assigned region and partners with regional HR to identify and provide solutions for HR-related needs.

Human Resources Engagement Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Coach, guide and work with location managers and region leaders to set-up, implement and monitor the effectiveness of those locations’ employee engagement, retention, and succession plans.  Work with Operations, regional HR managers, Talent Acquisition and other areas of HR to leverage company resources to engage and retain employees.
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation and related measurements of success.
  • SME and SMR for regional HR and management, employees and applicants in all areas of the pre-employment screening and onboarding process.
  • Liaison with location management and regional HR and management teams, providing guidance with respect to pre-employment record checks, onboarding and contractual requirements when appropriate or as needed.
  • Identifies training needs for business units, facilitate and maintain pre-employment screening and onboarding training material (i.e. Ban the Box updates, hiring standards, Form I-9/E-verify management, etc.) HRES will help coach on compliance issues and company standards.
  • Work with appropriate personnel (i.e. recruiting, training and development, HR, etc.) in regard to employee relation issues (i.e. conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations, provide written feedback, summary, recommendations, and analysis to management). Provide written investigation report and update system as required.
  • Research and participate in opportunities to advance knowledge of position requirements; i.e. seminars that will further development within the organization and FirstGroup University.
  • Manage special projects (e.g. monthly/quarterly/yearly reporting metrics, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality of records, reports and files that are generated/received which contain sensitive information.
  • Maintenance of shared email and share drive.
  • The above duties are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to define minimum activities. These duties may be altered to suit the needs of the company as needed.
  • 50% travel required. 

Human Resources Engagement Specialist Experience & Skills Required:

  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and accountability.
  • Associate Degree required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years prior Human Resources, Recruiting, Training and Development, or related experience. 
  • Must be able to work with minimal instruction, but willing to accept and take direction.
  • Exceptional detail orientation & time management skills
  • Ability to use diplomacy and tact in dealing with the client, peers and field management, and external partners. 
  • Ability to conduct internal investigations and close out investigations appropriately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to provide excellent customer service is a must.
  • Ability to listen to employee concerns, and act on those concerns appropriately to improve retention. 
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & Outlook) products.
  • Willingness to be a positive and proactive team member.  Ensuring a team-oriented approach to success.
  • Evidence of building solid relationships with superiors and peers.
  • Ability to assist regional management with HR related topics and investigations.
  • Willingness to learn and be coached.
